Welcome to the Monterey Bay Tritons website:
News & Important Event Information:
Chris Saxl - Is crowned the first Winner of the King of the Tritons Series.
The 2011 King of the Tritions Series has officially been completed.
Thank you very much to each of you who committed to the club series and I hope that it was as challenging as we originally hoped for. Just to give you a quick recap of the tournament series rules: Each diver may submit up to 15 species from a preselected species list. Each fish was worth 20 points plus a maximum of 5 bonus points from weight. For example: Rubber Lip that weighs 1.75lbs earns 21.75 points / a Ling Cod that weighs 15lbs earns 25 points.
The tournament series was blessed with perfect weather for the first 4 events but our final event was not quite as lucky. Even though it was diveable and the conditions were not unsafe, the ground swell was really strong and made for some bad visibility and a little extra work. The weather made our final event the smallest turnout yet and the awards ceremony was missing a few people, but the rest of us had a great time. We are looking forward to more competitors in 2012 and growing our membership.
The series was sponsored by Addiction Spears & the Freedive Shop. Please, support these sponsors by purchasing the gear they offer as they have invested over $1,500 to support the Tritons in 2011. A special thanks to them for their support. The board will make every effort to work with them to be part of our 2012 series.
Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for, the 2011 King of the Triton’s Champion is Chris Saxl.
Chris turned in 15 scoring species for a total score of 340.30 points and a total fish weight of 40.30lbs. Remeber, total weight maxes out at 5lbs, so that means all the other smaller fish need to have some weight to keep up your bonus points. Chris had some noteable fish!!
Chris was the only competitor to break the 40lb bonus mark, which is a solid performance by any standards. Secondly, Chris led the series from the first event and did a great job on the final day to pick up some extra weight points, which by the looks of it, he needed to keep his lead.
The Tritons congratulate Chris for a great performance and officially give him the “Crown”.
