Our trip on the Peace boat this year was cut short due to some major boat damage after the 3rd dive on day 1, but we were able to find some schools of small yellowtail mid-afternoon. An aggressive sea lion was giving us a hard time, but fortunately we were able to land all of our fish and not lose any gear.
Here's a vid of the action we caught on camera: https://youtu.be/SmqHDb69Jbw
I was wondering how that trip went. good thing you got some fish in before the mishap. What happened to the peace boat?
Hey how'd the trip go? What happened to the boat?
Due to swells and military closure of SCI we went out to Santa Barbara Island. Water was 65 degrees with 30-50' vis. There were a few sightings of game fish at the first two spots with no success until the third where +/- 10 yellowtail were landed. We were pulling anchor to head to a fourth, the anchor was set pretty good and the boat gave first losing the anchor, windlass and guide. We had dinner and headed back to Ventura getting back around 3am. The crew recovered the anchor and marked the location to come back for the rest. Disappointing to cut the trip short but everyone was appreciative of the situation realizing how bad that could have gone and the impact on the crew.
Wow, that’s intense. Glad all were ok and I hope the Peace Boat crew will be able to recover and fix their boat. Thanks for the update.
Also - that must have made the run home pretty trying?!
They had to to take it slow I think. But couldn't have been too bad considering we all slept through it .
