Catch & Cook Competition Series
In 2019, we introduced a unique Catch & Cook Competition to the Spearo Community. The event draws on your talents from freediving, to hunting, to cooking and marine conservation.
The Catch & Cook Competition is a family-friendly event organized by ocean lovers to raise funds for ocean conservation while encouraging sustainable fishing practices. The event quickly gained major traction and was featured in several publications including Spearing Magazine, Deeper Blue, Noob Spearo Podcast, and many more.
The event invites spearfisher men and women into a day of showcasing their prowess in hunting, foraging and cooking. After spearing their fish and harvesting their ingredients that morning, they set off to cooking on camp stoves and BBQ pits. The food is then plated and presented to panel of judges, comprised of 3 well known executive chefs. The dishes are awarded points on presentation, technique, taste, and additional points are earned for using multiple parts of the fish. There are also awards and prizes for most urchins removed, biggest fish, and most trash picked up from the beach during the beach clean up.
